THE EDGE KUALA LUMPUR RAT RACE®
The Edge is the official organiser of The Edge Kuala Lumpur Rat Race®.
Since its launch in 2000, The Edge Kuala Lumpur Rat Race®, inspired by the Carey Wall St Rat Race in New York, has been a highlight of Corporate Malaysia’s annual calendar. It has taken place annually, with the exception of 2015 when inclement weather due to the haze led to the cancellation of the race. In 2020 and 2021, Covid-19 caused the race to be suspended.
Since its inception until 2019, the generosity of Corporate Malaysia enabled The Edge to raise over RM24 million for charity through the Rat Race. Well over 200 registered charities and NGOs have received Rat Race funds that enabled them to run operations and programmes that benefit the poor, the disadvantaged and the disabled – regardless of colour, creed or gender.
The bulk of the funds raised from the Rat Race goes towards NGOs and non-profits that run programmes related to education, training and skills development for the physically and intellectually disabled and disadvantaged members of society, thus enabling them to earn a livelihood, lead lives of greater dignity and, ultimately, be better integrated into society. In recent years, in line with growing global concern over the environment and climate change, NGOs involved in environmental and conservation efforts have featured prominently among the list of Rat Race beneficiaries.
The Edge Education Foundation retains a portion of the funds raised from the Rat Race for its financial literacy programmes as well as a scholarship programme for undergraduates in need of financial support who meet TEEF’s academic requirements and are enrolled in selected courses at local universities.
